It’s hard to think how a Detroit based manufacturing company could be good for the environment. Not so much, if you consider the type of work this fabrication company has been doing over the past 30 years. From vehicle batteries, to windmills to solar energy equipment, as well as an array of specialty electric vehicle parts, Prototech is doing its part to advance the alternative energy push in our society.

“Years ago we were involved with the electric car battery program for Ovonics on the Chevy Volt at General Motors”, remembers a long-time employee. Since then the company has worked on batteries for several major car companies and tier one suppliers, such as Toyota, Ford, and Roush. Parts included battery tray housings, bases, covers, doors and associated bracketry.

“We had no idea that the industry would transform as much as it has over the past 20 years”, reflects Steve Prue. Since then Prototech has engaged in a plethora of electric car programs, from manufacturers such as Tesla, Karma , Rivian, Lucid and Bollinger.

In addition to electric cars, Prototech has also engaged in the manufacture of Windmill parts. Many of the Windmills you see off the side of a secluded road in the Midwest have Prototech’s finger prints on them. The company worked with several large manufacturing companies who were heavily subsidized by the U.S. government. Parts included split angle iron towers, nose cones and angle spacer plates, to name a few.

Another renewable energy program worked on by Prototech is in the solar power sector with parts such as solar panel mounting systems – ground mount, module mounting systems – roof mount, and portable power system bracketry and housings.

So when you think of Prototech, in addition to automotive and defense, think GREEN.
